the {family} room

My family room is finally *closer* to the way I've imagined it and I just have to share!

Hubby promised me new furniture if I would go back to work after having Harper {his way I think to make me keep going every day last year! haha} so we began looking everywhere for a certain look.  After we couldn't find what we were looking for, we decided to get custom made chairs in a tan houndstooth fabric.  I'm so in love!  A little boutique shop in town created the yellow pillows in the pictures and the green pillows are from Kirklands.

I'm loving the new look! Of course, toys line every extra space we have in this room, but I took the pics before Jordan's shower, so they are hidden a bit!

I didn't get a pic, but the other corner opposite the side chair and beside the fireplace is another houndstooth chair with ottoman.  The chair holds a square green pillow with a large button that is similar to the long one on the couch.  The side table stayed with same with the horse photo, Keeneland lamp, and Harper photos! :)

I'll post soon about the rest of our new additions and now Harper-friendly areas in the house!

Hope you all have a good week! Thanks for making all my guest poster's feel welcome! Hope you found some new blogs to follow, and thanks for my new followers, too!  Hoping to get back to posting a few times a week again! Fingers crossed! :)

Christmas Decorations Linky Party!

Woo Hoo! I'm more excited to see your Christmas decorations than to share mine! :)

Thanks to Pinterest, I wanted to do a lot more this year, but I just haven't had wanted the take the time to make because playing with baby is just a little more fun these days. Oh well!

After we got engaged, my husband wanted to get an ornament from the spot we were at to commemorate on our tree. I was majorly against having a 'memory' tree as I wanted a pretty perfect tree.  But, after our first Christmas together and a couple years of collecting ornaments from places we've been, I am SO GLAD he won that fight! It was so fun pulling out our ornaments and reminiscing about our trips.  I can't wait to pick up a few First Baby ornaments for this year, too! Harper LOVES the tree! She can sit there and look at it for quite a while!!

*New things I'm wanting to add but just haven't gotten around it is 2 smaller wreaths hanging from my china hutch windows.  I think next year I will put in my Christmas China I have into the china hutch. I just didn't feel like getting all that out this year!!

Our Christmas decorations are pretty much the same as last year which can be seen here and here. But, here's some pics of the newer items this year!

Santa already filled Harper's stocking! haha

happy my homemade bows stayed in tack from last year!

jingle bells in the monogrammed bowl

napkin rings are from MIL, they are made out of dough from the women in Ecuador!

our first family ornament with Harper

our "happy birthday jesus" party details will be coming soon!

i went back and forth on getting Harper a new advent calendar, but this one was made by my Nanny. she never got to meet Brian or Harper, so I decided to keep this one and we'll use it with Harper! :)

Harper's tree. I wanted the pink feather one at HL, but once I made it there it was already sold out! Hoping to get it for next year!

pre-lit wreath, but I added the other stuff on

Harper got a girl elf from GG on Sunday :)

Harper is the only one with gifts wrapped! She has her own special paper this year - no one else can have their presents wrapped in it! Her Christmas sock monkey was also a gift from GG on Sunday along with 3 Christmas sleeper outfits! She got pre-Christmas gifts!

front porch sans snowman flag you can't see/ wanting to add big red mesh bows to the top of the trees (pic taken before I re-did wreath)
Don't you just love how cozy Christmas makes your home feel?!
And of course, the cutest decoration this year is this new addition...

Welcome to Harper Alan's Nursery...

Ever since I found out I was pregnant {ok, way before that:) } I've been dreaming of what and how I would decorate a nursery; boy or girl.  Much to my dismay, I decided to forgo my signature pink and green style {with paisley of course} to go with what I thought to be a lesser known route for a baby girl's room.  Brian was excited for the use of purple, too, as he had just gone through a total pink and green wedding not too long ago. :)

My ideas and wants changed throughout the process, but in the end, we got exactly what we wanted.  Brian and I are very similar in our tastes, which helps a lot I would assume.  We both didn't want a room to look too much like a 'baby' even though it is for a baby.  We both aren't in to characters, but more designs and layers.  So, in looking for pre-made bedding that is actually affordable to us, that seemed to be a problem! However, we finally found what we were looking for! :) (and generously received it as gifts from MIL and Mom) We also wanted the look of a simple, serene, and calm bedroom without lots of clutter, stuffed animals, and just plain stuff!

Lastly, I realize if you've been following my blog for a while, you've seen the other rooms we've done...well...let's just say we really like stripes in this household {but the other ones are vertical!} and wall decals {hehe}! :) Thanks to my awesome hubby for painting the entire room himself!!

So, here are the pictures of the nursery...I hope you like!

We are so pleased with her room!
So, not everything was exactly like I had once planned it to be, I think the room really came together well.  I often find myself or Brian in the room just looking around and walking around. We are so pleased with how everything turned out!! I love how everything is new and perfect awaiting her arrival.  Someone once said the first baby's room should be the nicest in your house...well, I don't know if it's the nicest, but it certainly has taken the most time and thought out of all the other rooms!
