Nursery Progress!

YAY! I feel like we've finally made some progress!!!

Brian has worked very hard on painting Harper's room over the past couple of days.  It's a larger room and I wanted a few neat details on the room and he had to do it himself after work and on Sunday. He hasn't stopped until about 9:00 at night!! What a good Daddy already! {Darn...I can't be around that paint smell and help...haha}

After we painted, we were finally able to pick up our furniture that has been ready since the beginning of May!! My Dad left from work on Tuesday and picked it up for us and brought it over to help Brian move it upstairs and put it together.  Luckily, the dresser and armour were mostly already assembled.  Well, I say luckily, but Brian and my Dad had a pretty hard time getting the dresser up the stairs! It was soo heavy!

I had told my Mom and Dad I would order pizza for us, and then my sister called to see if I wanted to eat dinner with her ~ so they ended up coming over, too! Who knew getting baby furniture would turn in to such a party. :) haha  It was so fun and of course the little boys were perfect angels staying out of the way and Colby helping take the paper and plastic off the furniture!

Unfortunately, once we got the crib box open we noticed a pretty big gash in the corner...so they've re-ordered us another one that should come in about 2 weeks. I was upset since I've been waiting to get this room sort of set up for a while, but oh well!  There's still one small accent wall we haven't painted yet because I'm waiting to see which of my 3 ideas will look best on that wall after we get the crib and crib bedding in.

As for baby furniture, we looked and priced things EVERYWHERE! We started in March I think and ended up finding what we wanted in early May and *luckily* getting each piece with 20% off!  There was a lot of different looks I really liked.  I loved the look of a top hutch on top of the dresser but the price of that was going to be the price of a whole other dresser drawer set, and Brian was finally the voice of reason explaining Harper will need the drawer space when she gets older, our room is big enough for that much furniture, and we could get something else with shelves if I really wanted it. {Did he just give me free reign to buy her lots and lots of clothes?!?!}

Another thing we had to think about was the price.  Luckily, my parents gave us enough money for 2 pieces of furniture and Brian's Mom gave us money for a piece, so we were definitely blessed in that area! But, babies and baby stuff is so expensive and you have to get everything all at once! So when we started to think about: the furniture, the mattress, the paint, the nursery chair, the bedding, the diapers, hospital bill, clothes, etc., {again, another reason I don't know why people ask if I'm not going back to work - I'd like for my baby to not be naked and have diapers, thanks} we just decided to not go with our highest priced furniture or our lowest-priced and go with the one we really liked in the middle.  So that's what we did! :)  Now, after seeing it against our wall color and the dark look of the furniture {we were going with white and then changed our minds to dark espresso} I absolutely LOVE it! The 'feet' of the furniture are my favorite!

Oh, and just a tip, we went ahead and got the 'converter crib' bed and bought the converter rails to make it into a queen sized bed.  So that way we won't have to find a bed to match the other furniture and as she grows into a toddler bed and then a big bed, we will already have all the parts we need and everything will match perfectly!

Baby Cache ~ Essentials Curved in Espresso {just the picture, not our room, it looks much better in person!}

Dad, Brian, and Colby;) unloading while the rest of us watched!

Cameron is so excited! haha

Us playing in the baby's room while the men work! Again, is there a theme here? Mom, Kelli, and I do nothing while we watch Dad and Brian work.  I think Eric meant to go to work on purpose. HAHA

Not happy about the crib being gashed!

 Who knows what he was doing here! He loves tools! We did put the flashlight on my belly and my Mom and Colby felt Harper 'running' from the light. It was funny!
Hopefully, I'll be able to reveal our room soon! Now, I've got to get on creating a major something for her room!!

Dear Harper,

{A Satire Letter}

Dear Harper,

The other night your Daddy and I went downtown to Thursday Night Live to enjoy a live band and yummy Goodfella's pizza {you will learn to love this pizza-the-size-of-your-head}.  But we were quickly interrupted by the pure thought of you becoming a teenager and Daddy having to take Xanex on a daily basis.

Now, you may think we are overreacting, but your Daddy is so nervous for a precious little girl! So, here are some guidelines we decided on from the other night's fiasco sitting beside us, my dear.

1. Please do not let boys buy you drinks when you are clearly not a day over 15.
2. You need to wear clothes that go up to your neck. End of discussion.
3. Push-Up bras are not classy. They are trashy.
4. Basements are not allowed.  Daddy just said it. Go with it.
5. Daddy thinks you will never want to go anywhere without him; so whether you invite him or not, he will be right where you are.

:)

Poor Brian. I promised him I was a pretty good girl, and our girl will hopefully be, too! He was SO funny freaking out. I told him he better bulk up and get scary looking before she starts dating. He clearly answered she won't be dating until college.

Oh. My.

But then, we saw some very sweet, cute, and cuddly little girls being held high up in their Daddy's arms and all was restored in him once again. :)

26 Weeks :)

Ok, I am a believer now...this pregnancy is flying by! When I first got pregnant and weeks 4-18 were about to drive me nuts with all the sickness, I thought I would be pregnant forever! But it really is seemingly quickly going by! Brian says every day how he just can't wait for her to get here.  I feel like I can wait just a little longer! I need too many things done before that!!!

Pregnancy Highlights:

early morning Saturday pic ~ no face! ha! On my way to the pool with the little ones :)
Size: basically a 2-pound chuck roast! ha! She could also measure 9+inches long! Although we went to the doctor last week, I didn't have an ultrasound, so I don't know her exact weight/length yet.  Dr. did measure my stomach and I'm measuring perfectly at 22 inches long! I could probably bet she really is the exact 2 pounds since all her other measurements have been exactly on.
Weight Gain: I'm up +18 lbs. WHOA WHOA WHOA  I'm still wearing anything and everything. ;) Regular dresses, maternity dresses, maternity pants/shorts, regular tops, maternity tops...

Gender: It's a GIRL! Harper Alan
What's Baby up to?: Baby girl's eyes are beginning to open!! Baby is able to really see, although it's dark in there.  I can also notice when it's super bright (like using a flashlight on my belly!) she will move a lot and move a lot when she hears loud, unexpected noises.  She can also blink!

Movement: She moves all the time! She moves any time I am sitting, always early in the morning and late at night.  She's also getting pretty predictable in moving when I sit or lay in certain positions.  I feel her rolling up and down my belly a lot now, and what seems like a little foot or hand jabbing up close to my ribs. Brian and I think she's finally moving up a little and not sitting so low just by the look of how I'm carrying her now.  I can feel her when she kicks my bladder - and basically - get out of my way! ha! Her kicks are kind of hard, but I don't mind!

Cravings: Just anything really. And yes, desserts.  I'm noticing I need to eat a lot more than normal - which I sort of never realized before since I've always liked to eat and ate a lot.

Sleep: Same thing...Not really sleeping at all.  About an hour at a time with about 30 minutes of awake time in between.

Symptoms: Mild Mood Swings;) Does that count as one?! Leg Cramps & little bumps are forming all over my body?!

Nursery: Although I know a lot of people don't get their nursery done until right before the baby ~ that's just not me.  If I could have had it my way, I would have had the whole thing done a MONTH ago. :(  I'm still waiting on Brian to paint the nursery so we can finally pick up our furniture that's been ready for forever and I can start the actual decorating and crafting things in the room.  I have a pretty big project to work on once the paint and furniture is in the room, so I'm wanting to get started on it quickly! Believe me, if I could smell/be around the paint, I would be painting myself!

Randomness Friday

Well now that it's officially the 100th day in a row {ok, 5th maybe} that it's been raining or overcast here...I have a randomness + rant post. Sorry and forewarning. I need to get to a pool, stat. :)

1. Summer is for me to get tan so I will be the big, pregnant, tan girl. Everyone knows extra skin = better looking when it's tan.  It hasn't been a full day of sun since I got back from vacation. Ugh.

2. I love my new monogram I got in Charleston. LOVE. IT. Will be putting it on the car as soon as this rain stops and I can get a car wash!

3. I've been working on a couple of orders this week. I'm in love with these 2 things from the week.  The diaper cake needed to be very specific to a certain invitation and what the customer wanted. I'm pretty happy with it!

4-8. I'm completely overwhelmed in the baby department. First, I went to the doctor's office yesterday for a check-up, but learned I would be taking the glucose test.  Although the little bottle of orange crush-like drink wasn't as bad as I had heard, I wasn't prepared at all.  The day before the appt. I had my worst-eating-pregnant-day of this whole thing and ate 2 pieces of chocolate pie, somewhere around 6 brownies, and a few cookies. For lunch. whoops.  I'm nervous about the results now, like maybe I tripped the test.
I sort of chugged this because she made me nervous saying I only had 10 minutes to get it down!
Second, I got all these papers and forms that need to be filled out before our next appt. in 4 weeks. I must be an idiot because I hadn't even started to think about pediatricians, insurance, hospital payments, labor classes, breast-feeding classes, etc. Whew. I get tired thinking about it.  Third, NO ONE wants to be my long-term sub. Can I blame them? No. But I need someone before EVERYONE and their MOTHER tells me how it is SO important to get a good sub or else. Or else what? I'm going to be the lone teacher suffering from angry parents, angry administrators, bad kids, horrible test scores, etc.  Fourth, NO ONE wants to watch my baby. :( I've been on about 3 waiting lists and no one is letting up.  Honestly, if I hear from one more person how their parent watches their child 5 days a week or they are going to be a SAHM, I might scream. From jealousy. I need to work on that.

9. I'm officially obsessed with Etsy. I know it took me a while, but I LOVE all the cute little girl clothes I see! I spend hours looking and searching...but have been very good at not buying anything...yet! Currently, I love this site. My baby girl won't be able to go barefoot like other newbies b/c it will be getting cold, so these are the cutest alternative!! I love the brown ones and the pink ones!

10. I would like to write to Genevieve. You know, Dear Genevieve from HGTV? I've decided I can't stand my icky looking living room anymore and pleaded with her to come give me a make-over and pay for it since baby is sucking us dry. Do I need to get out of the house? Yes. Do I watch too much HGTV? Double yes.

Anyways, that's my post for now. Sorry it's not more fun. :( I do have a super fun Gala to go to tonight with hubby!  I'll be missing out on the open bar part, but, hopefully they will have good food and fun entertainment!

Nursery Art~Etsy Style

I totally feel like this blog has turned into a baby blog. I apologize for that! I am hoping to get back on track to cooking new recipes, sharing fun things I do with hubby, and hopefully attempting more home-improvement projects {although baby is kind of sucking us dry in the money area with her room, ha!}.

Anyways, I found some really fun and sweet art for the nursery...but I am not sure which one I want!  I'm not a big wall art person...I'd rather have pictures of actual people I know hung all over the place rather than a picture I didn't take or something.  But, I found these super cute prints from this Etsy shop and am thinking of purchasing one! The prices range from $20-$55 and can be custom made for you, too!

What do you think? Which one do you like best?

Most of these come as an 8x10 on paper or canvas.  She also has boy ones, too! I love this last one with the 10 commandments, but the line "do not murder" sort of freaks me out in my baby's room... ya know?!

Family Vacation

We spent last week in Hilton Head Island with Brian's parents, sister's family, and cousin! It was a great vacation as always with wonderful weather!  We all stayed in Brian's Mom's house and went to the beach, played at Kim's pool, and the boys went golfing a couple of times during the week, and ate a lot!
We decided not to go to our fav Savannah for the first few days {like we've done in the past} so we could car-pool with Brian's cousins, so we went to Charleston for one day and were able to visit the Market and meet Jen and Geoffrey for dinner!

Here's a picture over-load from the week! :) Warning: Long Post Alert!
