Party Girl

I haven't 'partied' in quite some time {literally and blog-er-ly} so, here goes...

Who/What/Why of Blissfully Burton

1. I'm Megan, the author of this little blog.  I'm a daughter of Christ, my parents, and a sister to a fabulous gal. I'm a wife to an awesome man which we share a beautiful daughter - I'm not at all a proud parent. ;) Actually I'm crazy in love with her! I'm *hopefully* a good friend to some and an encouraging teacher to students.  And I'm one very proud Auntie Ma Ma.

2. The blog started out following the engagement of my husband and I. I blogged about us building our first home, trying out new recipes and making my own, going through pre-marital classes, decorating and wedding showers.  All the crazy and fun times to be had together and with our crazy friends.  Then it turned into my wedding blog where I shared each step with whomever was reading and through the ins and outs of learning to live together! But now, my blog has turned into my little baby book of our daughter.  I've chronicled my entire pregnancy and beginning of motherhood.  I'd like to say I'm a keeping it real kind of Momma and blogger.

3. My why is a funny thing. I started it to keep out-of-town family and friends in the look.  But now, I feel like it's therapy for me! I've always loved writing and this just seems like the perfect niche! I've grown to love posting and re-reading back over my life.  I've made several friends through blogging and grown to have a huge respect for these women who write real posts. You never know what or who you'll be helping in various ways!

PS- I started blogging WAY before I had a cool name. #bloggercoolfactorfail :)

Wow!!

I am beyond floored by the comments left on my blog, the emails I've received, and the FB messages that have occurred.  I cannot even begin to tell you how inspiring and motivating you all are. Seriously!

I think the comments really hit a note with me because they happened on a bad day when I was already down. I took the positive comments to heart and have read them several times over again.

I had said in the last 2 years that in my New Year's Goals, I wanted to make sure that this blog served a purpose. Not only to document our life and now our daughter's life, but to also hold some type of meaningful purpose for others.  Some of the comments or emails I've received regarding the appreciation of honesty and faith brought me to tears - but the good kind this time!

I've taken the advice and have put a moderation on my comments {because the Anonymous was back for more :( }.  I think I have it set so that you much have an ID and I hope this will work. If it causes more work for you all to comment, please don't worry about it! I know a lot of times I want to comment on a lot of blogs, but I'm reading from my phone and it's just too hard to go through all those passcodes and such.

I'd love to host a give-away as a thanks for all of you taking the time to comment and send positive thoughts and prayers! Would anyone like their product featured? If so, email me at megek4@yahoo.com and we'll get it going soon!

For now, I'm going to relish in some more beautiful afternoons and get back to blogging soon.
:)

Here's a little smile for my day~

Dear Anonymous,

Dear Anonymous,

You did your job. And you did it well. If your hope was to make me feel like sh*t, well, you succeeded.  I wish I was the type of person that could brush it off and realize that you are probably a person without a lot of love in your life, without joy, and without comfort; but I can't.

What I can think of is that if you had been reading my blog for a while, you would understand that EACH and every day I worry about the choice that was made about not being able to nurse anymore. You would know that I struggle, on a daily basis, about this.  You would also know that my weight at this current moment, is something that I struggle with, too.  I've never had to worry about weight. I don't know how to eat well or exercise regularly and it has been quite hard to look at myself in the mirror each day with this extra 'baby weight' I'm carrying around.  Most nights, I get so down on myself, that I end up in tears because I feel so disgusted.

So, thank you, for using my child's baby book as an outlet to let your anger and hatefulness land.  Thank you for making what was a TERRIBLE day on Wednesday become an even worse day from someone I don't know, but that would take the time to write such rude and hurtful things to someone you do not even know.  At least I hope you don't know me. Because, that would actually be worse. I guess.

Here are the comments left on my Hello Cereal! blog post:

Maybe you should not have had children since feeding them is such a burden. Lazy cow..

your disgusting lazy mother... damaging your baby for life with processed food not fit for rats... hope that does not keep you up at night... do society a favor... get your tubes tide so you do not make anymore stupid formula fed dumbed down babies

*This has truly made me think more about going private. I have different feelings. I know if I go private, the family who reads this blog will not be able to get to it as easily and they will not get to know about Harper as much. That part I hate. The other part, is that maybe Harper and our life should not be so open and honest on the web.  But, that's the part I love about blogging. I'm a real blogger. My life isn't perfect. No one's is, but I try and not act like it is.  And I feel that I've truly connected with others because of this and have been able to use blogging as therapy, connections made with other Moms, and a constant life-book of my baby girl's precious life.

Oh, and Anonymous, I can assure you that my 'dumbed down' baby will be able to use you're correctly and know how to spell tied. Unlike you.

Cool New Blog

I randomly ran across a really neat blog and had to share with you all!

I've been looking for a while for a few core verses that I want to pray on a daily basis for Harper. I'd love to say that I just opened my Bible and they came to me...but they disn't. So, instead, I went to Google like I do for everything.  I typed in several things I want Harper to learn from an early age on.  These obviously will change many times in her life, but I'm just looking for those core things to pray over her daily like: peace, joy, fullfillment, and beauty through Christ. Oh my, the beauty. It is such a scary time in our world for children, but I just have this worry for girls. Maybe because of the grade I teach and I see the girls are aware of way too many things already and it's just scary.
{you can see the one I made for Harper here. email me if you'd like a copy}

Anyways, while Googling, I came across this blog - When You Rise.

The first post that was on the page was about infertility.  Although this is not something I have dealt with personally, this is something that holds an incredibly large place in my heart. It's something that has weighed on me for several years and something that I'm very sensitive to. I just loved this open and honest post.

Then, I started looking around at older posts and her different pages. It's like I couldn't get enough! This Mom is so honest! She's not one of those horrific make-you-feel-bad-because-you-aren't-perfect Moms, she tells it like it is, all the bad and good, with some pretty good insight to go along with it.

Some awesome ideas about parenting can be found here. She has free printables to help little ones learn the Bible {I love the book she uses, thanks Maegan for getting it for Harper!}, a theme page for Gospels that you could really just run wild with a toddler for learning! I am totally obsessed with her Creation Day unit and will be bookmarking that for when Harper is a toddler to do in the summers. I also love her Teaching Your Child to Pray printables.  A recent post of hers fell right in my lap of what I was feeling that day - the Comparison game.

Anyways, I thought some of my readers may be interested in reading her blog, so go check it out and tell her I sent you! :)
